Mewing definition: what "Mewing" means and examples

February 13, 2026

A technique involving specific tongue posture intended to reshape the jawline and improve facial aesthetics.

Named after Dr. Mike Mew, this involves flattening the tongue against the roof of the mouth to "train" the jaw to be more defined. It has become a massive trend on TikTok. You might see your child suddenly go silent and press their finger to their lips, this is often a "mewing" gesture, signalling they can't talk because they are working on their jawline. It is largely considered a "pseudo-science" by actual orthodontists.

Examples:

  1. "He’s been mewing for months trying to get a sharper jawline."
  2. "You can’t talk to him right now, he’s mewing."
  3. "Does mewing actually work or is it just another internet myth?"
