Ghosted definition: what "Ghosted" means and examples

February 9, 2026

When someone abruptly ends all communication with another person without any explanation.

Ghosting is the modern way to break up or stop seeing someone. Instead of having a conversation, the "ghoster" simply stops replying to texts and unfollows the person on social media. It leaves the other person in a state of confusion. It’s seen as a cowardly but very common way to handle the end of a "sneaky link" or a casual talking stage.

Examples:

  1. "We had a great time last week, but now he’s completely ghosted me."
  2. "I’d rather he just told me he wasn't interested instead of ghosting."
  3. "She hasn't replied in four days; I think I've been ghosted."
