Mukbang definition: what "Mukbang" means and examples

February 9, 2026

An online video format where a person eats large quantities of food while chatting with viewers.

Originating in South Korea, mukbangs have become a global phenomenon. Creators film themselves eating everything from giant bowls of noodles to massive fast-food orders. Many people find the sounds of eating (ASMR) and the "company" of the eater to be relaxing. However, some parents worry about the promotion of overeating in these videos.

Examples:

  1. "I spent three hours watching seafood mukbangs last night."
  2. "She’s doing a 'spicy noodle challenge' mukbang for her channel."
  3. "I don't understand the appeal of watching someone do a mukbang."
