Ratio definition: what "Ratio" means and examples

February 12, 2026

A situation where a reply to a post gets more engagement than the original post itself.

This is a specific metric of social failure on platforms like X (Twitter) or TikTok. If a person posts an opinion and the "replies" or "likes" on a dissenting comment far outweigh the original post's likes, they have been "ratioed." It serves as a public indicator that the original statement was unpopular, incorrect, or "an L." For the younger generation, being ratioed is a significant digital embarrassment because it proves that the community at large disagrees with them. It is essentially a democratic vote of disapproval.

Examples:

  1. "He tried to say that pineapple on pizza is the best, but he got absolutely ratioed in the comments."
  2. "Look at the numbers on that reply; that is a textbook ratio if I ever saw one."
  3. "I had to delete my post because the ratio was getting embarrassing and I couldn't defend myself."
