PFP definition: what "PFP" means and examples

February 9, 2026

An abbreviation for Profile Picture, representing a user's digital identity across social media and gaming platforms.

Your child’s PFP is their primary visual "calling card." Unlike the family photos we might use, young people often change these frequently to reflect their current mood, a favourite anime character, or a specific aesthetic trend. It is the first thing anyone sees on TikTok, Discord, or Instagram, and choosing the right one is often a high-pressure social task for teenagers.

Examples:

  1. "I spent an hour editing my new PFP to get the lighting just right."
  2. "Why did you change your PFP to a black square; is everything alright?"
  3. "Match your PFP with mine so people know we’re best friends."
