A term for a Non-Playable Character, used to describe someone who lacks original thought or merely follows the crowd.

Borrowed from the world of video games, an NPC is a character controlled by the computer rather than a human. In slang, calling someone an NPC is a way of saying they are a "background character" in life who just follows scripts and trends without any personal agency. It is often used as a lighthearted insult for someone being boring or predictable.
