Situationship definition: what "Situationship" means and examples

This is perhaps one of the most frustrating terms for our generation to grasp. A situationship occurs when two people are "seeing each other" and doing everything a couple does, but they have avoided the conversation that makes it official. It is a state of romantic limbo. It often stems from a fear of commitment or a desire to keep things "casual," yet it usually results in a lot of emotional confusion. If your child is upset over someone they weren't "officially" dating, they are likely mourning the end of a situationship.

Examples:

1. "We have been in a situationship for six months and I still don't know if I'm invited to his birthday."
2. "I had to end the situationship because I wanted something more serious than he could give."
3. "It is not quite a relationship, it is more of a situationship at this stage."
