A versatile reaction to something surprising, shocking, or even just slightly interesting.

That’s wild has become the default response for almost any situation. It can be used sincerely to react to a crazy story, or dismissively when someone is talking too much and you want the conversation to end. It is the modern equivalent of "That’s crazy" or "Wow." For parents, it is a useful "safety" phrase; if you don't know how to react to something your child tells you, "That’s wild" is usually an acceptable response. It acknowledges the information without requiring you to take a strong stance or provide a detailed opinion.
