Valid definition: what "Valid" means and examples

February 13, 2026

A supportive acknowledgement that someone's feelings or logic are reasonable.

This is a supportive term used to acknowledge that someone's feelings or choices make sense. If a child says "That's valid," they are offering a form of digital empathy. It confirms that the other person's perspective is reasonable. It is a very common way for them to validate each other's emotions or reactions to stress, school, or social drama. It acts as a verbal nod of agreement and understanding in a conversation.

Examples:

  1. "I'm just really tired today." "That's valid, you had a long week."
  2. "Her reason for being annoyed is actually pretty valid."
  3. "Wanting to stay home and relax instead of going out is valid."
