Bet definition: what "Bet" means and examples

February 9, 2026

A term of affirmation or agreement, similar to saying "okay," "it's on," or "I agree."

Bet has two main uses. Firstly, as a simple "Yes/Okay." (e.g., "Want to go to the shops?" "Bet.") Secondly, it is used as a challenge. If someone says "I can beat you at this game," the response "Bet" means "Prove it, I accept the challenge." It conveys a sense of confidence and readiness. It's a very proactive, punchy way of agreeing to a plan or a dare.

Examples:

  1. "We’re meeting at the park at five?" "Bet, see you then."
  2. "I bet I can finish this before you." "Bet."
  3. "If you do the dishes, I’ll buy the pizza." "Bet."
